I believe you need the PlayMemories app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sony.playmemories.mobile
I've used it on Android and iOS successfully

The Sony Imaging Edge one, for Android
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sony.playmemories.mobile
EDIT: This is only needed for WiFi transfer. If using a cable, the phone just shows up as an external storage drive on my phone, same a it would in Windows.
The alternative of course, is to just take the memory card out and stick it in your computer to get the files, then use something like Capture One Express to do the editing
Have you tried recently? I just noticed earlier this week they've pushed a version that supports Android 7.1. I haven't had a chance to actually try it with my camera yet...
Oh wait. It looks like we are not talking about the same thing. I was talking about this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sony.playmemories.mobile
This app simply let you control your Sony camera from your phone. I thought that was OP was talking about.
So the QX1 can come in 2 parts. The actual camera module and the lens. Most retailers are unfortunately selling them separate now so just the module. I paid about £400 for this ($650) which included that standard kit lens of 16-50mm f5.6. Lenses after that depend on quality, features and what type of lens you want. Anywhere from budget £100/$160 to well over £600/$900 for a good Zeiss lens.
And yes, works with any Android or iOS device (even tablets) as long as you can install the Remote Playmemories App.
I have a Sony a6000 and use the Imaging Edge Mobile app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sony.playmemories.mobile) the pictures are sent over NFC so you don't need wifi to transfer them. Idk if your camera would use the same. Also check the app settings there's an option to send smaller file sizes so make sure if you want full size images you check the right box.
I have a HX400V too and I found that Sony's app Imaging Edge Mobile works fine for my phone and camera.
Although the app doesnt appear to work with all Android phones (I have no idea whether there is a similar app for iOS) the basic options like zooming and taking pictures worked for me.

7.3.3
When trying to transfer images to phone, get an error that says "not enough memory space"
You need this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sony.playmemories.mobile
The camera transfers via WiFi so it does have to connect like that. After you have the app installed NFC tapping should work. If you're on the live view, it'll start remote control, if you're reviewing an image it'll send that image.
Also, get the photos from both devices on a big high quality screen and you'll see the difference.
You need this app for transferring photos, after it says "connecting.." just open that and they should transfer on their own. Videos are stored in a different folder though, you'll need to access your card to get them.

This to get my pics onto my phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sony.playmemories.mobile&hl=en
Once its on my phone, I use IG to brighten the pictures if need be and thats that
/u/DanTheGoodman_ - although the A6300 records great 1080/120p slow motion, like the A7 series it lacks a flip-forward screen for vlogging.
That said, you can fix this by connecting your phone to the camera via wi-fi and using it as a forward facing monitor.
To do this for less than $1000, I recommend a $789 used A6300 with a 30 day return window and a 90 day warranty from Adorama, a $39.99 cage, a $6.98 cold shoe mount adapter and a $9.99 cold shoe mount for your phone.
Download the Sony Playmemories Mobile app from iTunes or from the Play Store and follow the steps outlined here and you'll be in business.
Hope this is helpful and good luck finding the right camera for your needs!

I use for my rx100mk3. I have never done a registration.
The app was recently renamed. On Android you want Imaging Edge Mobile, then if you can, just use NFC to pair.

Beyond what the Sony Imaging Edge Mobile (or the iOS equivalent rather) app can do?
/u/Kalakaboo - you can control the shutter and Sony power zoom lenses remotely with a $28.50 Mcoplus RM-VS1 Remote Control Shutter Release, but the only way to control ISO remotely is with your smartphone and the Sony Smart Remote Control app from iTunes or the Play Store - which isn't very useful for run and gun doc style shooting.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Is it not this app?
